Year 7
In Year 7 students should develop skills in the Scientific investigative process and be able to safely use a variety of specialist laboratory apparatus. Students should progress to have a well-rounded understanding of Science and be fully prepared for GCSE and beyond. 

Topics covered in Year 7 include:

  • Science Skills
  • Acids and Alkalis
  • Cells and Reproduction
  • Forces and Speed
  • Particles and the States of Matter
  • Food and Digestion
  • Solar System
  • Electricity and Magnetism
  • Plants and Photosynthesis
  • Ecology

Year 8
In Year 8 topics include:

  • Atoms, Elements and Compounds
  • Breathing and Circulation
  • Chemical Reactions
  • Energy
  • Heating and Cooling
  • Light and Sound
  • Microbes and Disease
  • Rocks

Year 9
The Year 9 course is taught as three distinct branches of Science and by specialist teachers.

  • Physics - Forces Focus, Speeding Up, Applying Physics
  • Chemistry - Metals, Environmental Chemistry, Reactivity Series, Using Chemistry
  • Biology - The Human Animal, Staying Alive, Life in Perspective
