Literacy encompasses the skills of listening, reading, writing and speaking which are fundamental for accessing and understanding the curriculum. At Marling School, we are keen to support our students to develop their literacy skills throughout the school.

In Key Stage 3, all students use Accelerated Reader to measure and track their reading progress. Year 9 also use a reading journey to ensure that they are reading a selection of genres. In Year 10 to 13, students can read in tutor time and also are able to attend WES (Writing and Essay Support) which is run once a week by trained sixth formers.

Support and intervention is provided on a regular basis and is also available for students who have English as an Additional Language.

Finally, we also regularly welcome authors into School to speak to our students as well as running Primary School Literacy Days, often involving sixth formers.
