On Thursday 5 May 2016 Y7 went on a trip to Manor Farm, Doughton near Tetbury. Carter and Elliot went in the morning and Fuller and Greenstreet in the afternoon. Everyone really enjoyed the day, meeting the dog Marmite and the ponies. It was a fabulously good day with the sun shining and a brilliant atmosphere. The farmers were extremely nice and helpful answering our questions even if they were tricky. At the farm we studied what components made up the wetland ecosystem by observing what lived in and around the scrapes. We found frogs, tadpoles, deer slots and even evidence of a dead sheep! We made a tally chart of what we saw and took soil moisture readings. Then we also studied the woodland oaks and used Clinometers to measure the angle to the top of the tree and we measured the distance from where we were standing to the base of the trunk. We then did the same to a solitary oak tree. Using Quadrats we recorded what we observed and recorded what was in the area of each square and showed this as a percentage.
