Marling swim team compete at SW championships
Marling Swimming team competed in the South West Division of the 63rd Secondary School’s Team Championships at Millfield School on 20 October 2021. The team performed exceptionally well and held their own against some very fierce competition from Millfield School, Plymouth College and Mount Kelly College (all schools which have International and Olympic swimming alumni going back many years).
The fastest short course 50 metres freestyle swim by a male is 20.16 seconds, achieved by Caeleb Dressel (USA) on 21 November 2020 at the International Swimming League grand final in Budapest, Hungary. The British record is 20.66 seconds and the age group UK record for 18 year olds is 22.01 seconds. The senior boys were competing on the day against swimmers who could swim 50m freestyle in just over 22 seconds! Henry Sheffield and Ben Fielder swam 50m freestyle in 25.2 seconds and 25.54 seconds respectively with Dan Barnard, Hamish Dewar and Joshua Walmsley all swimming in well under 30 seconds each. All the boys swam exceptionally well on the day with 10 of the 17 swimmers achieving personal best times. The Junior boys team (Y7 and Y8) did particularly well getting 3rd place out of a field of 13 teams. We are incredibly proud of all the swimmers – well done!
